The Milwaukee Jazz Orchesta

The Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra, led by saxophonist and educator Curt Hanrahan is an A-list roster of Milwaukee musicians who not only swing their behinds off, they have something original to say by way of performances that are a  perfect balance of classic and contemporary standards and originals that are swinging, soulful, traditional and cutting-edge.

The benevolence of Woody Herman as the leader of a Big Band for over 50 years and the historical importance of the jazz produced from this great Orchestra is the mission of The Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra

Released in 2017 on the Chicago based Blujazz label, Welcome to Swingsville! is The Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra's debut CD featuring seven live and unrehearsed standards by Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Gil Evans to name a few and originals by Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra members Curt Hanarahan Steve Lewandowski.

JazzTimes review of Curt Hanrahan's
"Souljourner" CD

On his third effort, Milwaukee-based saxophonist, composer and educator Curt Hanrahan is joined by guitarist Jay Mollerskov, bassist Tim Hanrahan and drummer Dave Wall. Pianist Jim Sodke guests on the mysterious modal title track, which finds Hanrahan exploring freely on flute. Mollerskov’s “Pirate vs. Ninja,” with Hanrahan blowing urgent tenor, is grounded in hard bop; Hanrahan’s tenor work also highlights the guitarist’s moody “Proclivity.” The quartet turns in a sparkling rendition of Branislau Kaper’s “Invitation,” and closes with a Thad Jones medley of his swinging “3 in 1” and tender “A Child Is Born.”
